Building a Healthy Mother-Daughter Connection is a Walk in the Park

My most intimate and favourite moments with Miss B are on long walks in unfamiliar territory.

We had two such walks this year: the 1000-step Kokoda Trail at Dandenong Ranges National Park and the Flinders Peak walk at You Yangs Regional Park.

In both instances, hubby and J were the ones leading, sprinting uphill and waiting gleefully for us at the peak, while we less athletic ones straggled along, consistently overtaken by everyone and their dog.

I loved how she would take my arm as we walked. Sometimes, it was to help her keep up (ha!). Sometimes, it was for my benefit, which was nice.

It was in these moments that she would let down her "durian armour" and talk freely about stuff.

I'm planning on making these walks a regular family activity.
