Terrible Tween Tales
Had an epiphany just now.
I think I know where Miss 11 gets her stubborn streak and refusal to be taught aka desire to do things her own way.
I am like that in some areas of my life too. I need to personalize my output, almost sign off with a flourish and shout it from the rooftops that this bit of the newsletter or quote or special formatting was MY brainwave.
A need for significance sometimes taken to extremes, as it can make me quite unteachable.
Miss 11 has just announced that she is quitting drum lessons. Not because she doesn't like drums anymore. She wants to play drums but not be taught drums. Because she doesn't like people telling her what to do.
When asked how she will figure out what to play since there are no notes, she airily replied that she would learn from her new "mentor", Josh Devine, the 1D drummer.
Hubby had no issues with her decision.
Me, I had to take a deep breath and process that Miss 11 was choosing to give up yet another aspect of the structured educational journey I had painstakingly carved out for her.
First Kumon Math. Then classical piano. Then Chinese lessons. Now drum lessons.
Arrgh.
How much will she learn and grow and IMPROVE with such a laissez faire attitude??
