Stories for Our Children

Miss B went for her first drumming class at Universal Music School this week.

Couldn't help noticing the stark contrast between her demeanour in drumming class vs. Yamaha keyboard/AMEB lesson.

With the latter, she slouches at the keyboard (even in class), blitzes for 10 minutes or so (one piece, one time), avoids scales and sight reading if she can get away with it, and lets days go by without practising.

With drumming, she came home so enthused. Her face practically lit up as she talked about what she had learned. And after CA bought her her very own pair of drumsticks, she dutifully practised on piles of newspapers, even explaining to me what rhythms she was playing.

It's early days, but I have an inkling Miss B may have found an instrument that is more "her" in style and personality.

4 more lessons to go before end of term, and then we'll decide whether to sign her up for next year.
