Stories for Our Children

I am so proud of Miss B.

It's been 10 months since we made the decision to apply to GNLC and submitted the forms.

Since that time, our family has ridden the rollercoaster together, watching (sometimes powerlessly) and working together as Miss B went through her journey of denying, working through and now accepting and even embracing the reality of changing schools.

She can now talk matter-of-factly about school uniforms and orientation, when the mere mention of anything to do with the transition would have sent her into meltdown previously.

The other day, we had to fill in the green form that confirms whether a student is staying on at HCC in 2012, and Miss B was able to report that after she handed in her form, it became classroom knowledge that she is leaving the school.

And she showed no signs of being upset about it, which I thought was so great.

She's even taking the initiative to let her friends know she's moving on, and to give out my business cards so they can keep in touch. Because of this, a few of her classmates' mums have come up to me to chat about this subject.

She is growing up so quickly and I often make the mistake of underestimating her.

I love the random glimpses of the real Miss B (minus the bluntness, ego, sarcasm and smart-alecky responses) that pop up here and there.
The other day, she looked up from her homework and said, "Someday Mum, I'm going to repay you all my school fees."

I bit back the urge to say "you don't have to", and chose to say "thank you" and silently accept the offer for what it was, a gift from a 9 yo given with 100% sincerity from a pure heartspace.
