Big Words

The girls are watching Man Vs. Wild with Dad.

There's a scene where the main character jumps from a helicopter on to the Sahara Desert.

Dad does a mock scream as Mr Tough Guy free falls.

"Parachute," says Jordanne, trying to assure Dad that the hero will be fine.

PARACHUTE.

Big word for a newly minted 3 y.o.

We're impressed.

Learning Chinese Using Accelerated Learning Techniques

Am reading up on the use of Accelerated Learning of Chinese by the Australasian Centre of Chinese Studies (ACCS).

It claims to teach in a way that engages both sides of the brain, encouraging absorption by positive suggestion.

Check out the videos here.

Are You Be My Friend

Back in Nov 09, we had a church fundraiser called A Taste of Africa for our friend Kathleen, who has just flown off to Germany to train and prepare for her one-year mission trip with OM South Africa.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by West African dancer Shabba, and among the songs he got us all drumming and shaking to had a tune that went like this (in solfege):

do do do do
mi so mi do
re re re re
ti re ti so
do do do do
mi so mi do
Are you be my friend

I just heard Jordanne singing the song - randomly, with no prompting from anyone - singing it pitch perfect and word perfect. Her musical intelligence just amazes me.

Potty training complete...at 3 yo!

I am impressed. Amazed. Gobsmacked.

Jordanne went to bed last night, insisting that she did NOT want training pants on.

She has never gone to bed without training pants before, and I was so sure she would wet herself on waking up.

This morning, she woke up and actually played for a bit before announcing that she needed to go to the toilet.

She just turned 3 on 8 Jan.

I remember how we struggled to get Beth potty trained. She was still wetting the bed at 4+.

Isn't it amazing how two children from the same family can turn out so unique?

How Good Is My Child At Maths?

Just discovered a placement test online that can tell me where Beth is at.

Aside from the obvious (that Singapore Math is still #1 in the world), I need to know if Beth really has all her fundamentals covered before her teacher (or more likely her anxious parent) tries to elevate her to the next level.
