Growing Up In A Hurry
One of the fun things about having two children is watching how they interact and how they influence each other.
I am pretty sure #2 has become an avid reader just to catch up to #1. Sometimes, this has hilarious consequences.
The other day, I was reading one of #1's manga comic books (Library Wars) borrowed from the library, when #2 came over and asked what I was reading.
"What's the story about? Is it like Beauty Pop (another manga series)? Who are the characters?"
"Oh, there's this boy and this girl. His name is Instructor Dojo and hers is Iku."
"Are they boyfriend and girlfriend?" she wanted to know.
"No no, he's her boss. They quarrel everyday. He shouts at her and calls her Idiot and Blockhead."
"So ... it's like an on/off relationship," she concluded gleefully.
At which point my jaw dropped in astonishment, then I started laughing until the tears rolled down my face.
I said, "Just you wait till I tell Daddy!"
#2 clamped a hand over my mouth and giggled, "Don't tell Daddy!"
When I recounted this to #1, she was tickled and appalled at the same time.
To hear an innocent little first grader talk like a knowing teen is really quite something.
