Beth sings Above All

Beth learns the value of self-discipline

Beth learned the importance of Self-Discipline yesterday.

I had asked her to do a stocktake of her Kumon workbooks before today's lesson.

To her horror, she discovered that she still had 11 workbooks to complete!

I impressed upon her the life lesson that had been revealed by her inaction. We did a quick calculation and worked out that if she took 10 min per workbook, she could complete them all in about 2 hours.

To her credit, she buckled down and got working, though not without the occasional extended break and show of rebellion.

At 9 pm, she was down to the final two and she decided that she could and would finish them.

It was wonderful to see her make up her own mind about the matter without any parental pressure. A breakthrough in maturity indeed.

She eventually finished one and took herself off to bed, declaring she would finish the other after school today and before Kumon.

Bethany Recommends

Bethany's favourite new book - Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga' Hoole by Kathryn Lasky, a gift from Uncle Tucks and Aunty Suan on the last day of our recent holiday in Sg.

"The most inspiring book I've ever read. It's about friendship, bravery, loyalty, persistence, belief..."

So proud of Miss J.

She decided one day that she's ready to stand under the shower.

So for more than a week now, I've not had to mess with the leaky taps in the long bath, bend over to wash her - or worry that she might drown if I'm away in the kitchen.

She even consented to be showered with the other kids when she went for her swimming class.

Done and dusted in under 2 minutes. Save water, save time. Yes!!!
